This research included excavation, field survey, palaobotanical research and artifact studies. During this period North Munster was one of the most important regions in Ireland, and research has revealed a dynamic landscape history that witnessed significant demographic, social and economic change.

While previous work had identified the artefactual wealth, and especially the high-status late Bronze Age ornaments of sheet gold, the Project also assessed the rich diversity of the archaeological record, including a large database of sites and monuments and has revealed the extent and complexity of familial, local and sub-regional landscape organisation.

It is evident that later prehistoric communities demonstrated their separate and distinct character through choices in the range of artefacts and sites they utilised.; the place of landscape histories, natural boundaries and route-ways in the formation of these systems is also explored.

Further evaluation and discussion deals with a series of proposed models for the emergence of complex sociopolitical regional patterns in the late Bronze Age, and the major implications of this research are explores at a national level in the context of regional characterisation and identity.
