AN IRISH FAMILY BUSINESS
Compass Ireland is an Irish based family business that was formed in 2002. Alasdair Goold-Verschoyle is second generation Irish and first visited Ireland in 1960 at the age of eight, along with his Donegal father and mother. The Verschoyle family history runs deep through many centuries, going back to two Dutch Huguenot brothers who settled in Dublin in the early seventeenth century. In 1900 Alasdair’s grandfather legally changed their surname to Goold-Verschoyle and in millennium year 2000 Alasdair returned to Ireland thus re-establishing the family name on Irish soil.
The websites Irish Books Direct (started in 2012) and Read Ireland (started in 1999 and purchased by Compass Ireland in 2013) have been merged into one website, called BOOKS.IE (launched in February 2015). The goal of BOOKS.IE is to be a strong Ireland based website selling books and related products to a predominantly Irish customer base, both within the island of Ireland but also to the worldwide Irish diaspora and people who love Ireland.
"We support not only local and UK based publishers but also self-published books, giving a platform for bestselling books but also for unusual books as well as for unknown authors."
At the end of the day we are not just a business, we believe in the Irish community and connection with our members and guests, at home and abroad. Contact us, let us help you find that book that is hard to find. If you are an author, tell us about your book. We are also on Facebook and Twitter. Come join the conversation.
From all of us at BOOKS.IE - Thank you & Happy reading!
