This collection of sixteen research papers, most originally presented at a seminar organized by the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland and the Discovery Programme held in April 2005, presents current scholarship on numerous recent archaeological finds throughout the country. Focusing on Rural settlements, sites discussed include medieval settlements in Tullykane and Cookstown Co. Meath, several moated sites in Cork and Wexford, as well as numerous farm sites throughout the southeast.

Articles include colour photographs of sites and artifacts as well as numerous maps and excavation diagrams.
