The correct Irish name of every town in Munster is given in a new book by author and former politician Breandán Mac Gearailt.
The Towns and Peoples of Munster is the title of FitzGerald 's latest work by Martin, a native of West Dingle.
All the placenames are explained in the book and one or two from the towns are also mentioned as being of interest.
“This is a book to recognize the placenames of every county in Munster, starting with the largest town, and thence down. When one sees the absurd English version that is often found at home, it brings to mind. Landlord is often referred to as Blennerville or Castlegregory. It is strange, for example, that the name Kill should be mentioned with any town, ”says author Brendan FitzGerald.
The book also provides a common English version and a brief explanation in English so that a person with little Irish can understand exactly what is meant.
“In almost every town, one or two people from home are mentioned as being of interest or earning a reputation, especially those who may not be so well known.
"It simply came to our notice then.
“There are many under the GAA players, men and women and where they were born, such as Danno Keeffe who was born in Cork but played for Kerry - the first person to win seven senior Irish football medals. That record has stood for years. ”
This is the tenth book written by Brendan FitzGerald. His other books are, 2,000+ Questions , 500 Curses , 500 Blessings , 200+ Traits , The Taste of Confidence 1 and The Taste of Confidence 2, Mixture, Unbeatable Proverbs and These Fame Heroes .
