These short prose works are in many ways similar to the ‘Texts For Nothing’, but unlike earlier outbursts the tone is more muted and resigned.

The author described these eight short texts as fizzles, all except 'Still' originally written in French and translated later by the author into English. Like the 'Texts for nothing' they are mainly outbursts about the problems of life, but mellower in tone than the earlier work.

Haunting texts of great beauty they show Samuel Beckett as a poetic fabler unequalled in the originality and power of his unique vision.
