These five short texts by Samuel Beckett appeared in the first collection to be published posthumously, under the same title, in 1990.
With the exception of 'Neither', which was given to the American composer Morton Feldman and set by him, to become both a concert and as stage work, they belong either to the series of prose sketches, often recalling childhood youth, which became incorporated into longer works, or were written as stories which stand on their own. All have cadence of poetry if not the form.
