Stoneybatter - Dublin's Inner Urban Village
This is a classic oral history of the oldest settled community on the northside of Dublin.
On the northside of Dublin, Stoneybatter comprises the ancient Viking settlement of Oxmantown.
This northwest frontier of Dublin, was a major trading hub for over a thousand years. It became known as Cowtown as a result of its sprawling cattle markets, the maelstrom of animals, horse dealers, farmers and traders.
With most of Dublin tattered or demolished, Stoneybatter stands uniquely as a truly living community.
