Samuel Beckett: Mercier And Calmer
This is probably Samuel Beckett's lightest novel and is enormously enjoyable.
Mercier and Camier, written in French after the war, but only translated by the author nearly twenty years later, is a comic masterpiece where much of the comedy is grim in nature.
From the chance meetings and missings of the two protagonists, who embark on a journey and return, to the deep insight into the realities that underlie daily life, to events that would be banal but have their own deep meaning.
