The artists also explore areas such as popular youth culture, sport, music and social life. For the most part, they don’t treat this as subject matter with visual possibilities, but as the artwork itself. Through painting, sculpture, video, sound works and installations, the exhibition demonstrates the means by which artists question values underpinning contemporary society. The Crawford Open has also succeeded in its primary intention of showing art that is of relevance to today’s world.
