Introducing a new generation of readers to the Invincibles and militant Irish Republicanism in the late 19th Century

The group of militant Irish Republicans called the The Invincibles are mostly known today, if indeed they are recalled at all, for one daring and headline grabbing deed which took place in early summer 1882: the dual assassination of England's leading civil servants in Ireland.

Of the members of that society, the events and circumstances which created the body and how its activity impacted upon the politics of the time the modern public seem to know little and what little is known, for example that which is taught in school history books, is of a negative nature. Thus, this publication attempts to briefly put the events of May 1882 and all that followed in context.

Moreover, it will introduce a new generation of readers to the Invincibles and militant Irish Republicanism in the late 19th Century.
