Francis Libermann was the founder of the renowned Congregation of the Holy Spirit, which spearheaded mission work in Africa and a missionary movement in the church.

The son of a Rabbi from France, Libermann became a Catholic at the age of 24. When epilepsy excluded him from the priesthood, he was called by the plight of slaves to an apostolate in the French colonies.
