It was constituted from the six higher education colleges of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee (year of foundation given in brackets): College of Technology, Kevin Street, Dublin 8 (1887) College of Music, Chatham Row (1890) and Adelaide Road, Dublin 2 College of Commerce, Rathmines, Dublin 6 (1901) College of Marketing and Design, Mountjoy Square, Dublin 1 (formerly on Parnell Square, Dublin 1 (1905) College of Technology, Bolton Street, Dublin 1 (1911) College of Catering, Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin 1 (1941) This book describes the evolution accomplishments of the Institute from its beginnings 113 years ago, and includes its rapid academic development over the past thirty years. The DIT is now a multi-level higher education institution with the largest enrolment of all the higher education institutions in the state - about 22,000 (10,500 full-time students, 4,000 apprentices and some 7,500 other part-time students).
