The history of Arbour Hill combines both British and Irish heritage.

Thousands of British soldiers passed through its gates on their way to the far-flung outposts of the British Empire, and many now lie buried beneath its green sward.

But Irish soldiers are buried here too – including the 14 whose executions in 1916 led ultimately to the foundation of the Irish Free State.
