In particular, this book explains why and how Irish companies internationalise their businesses and why multinational enterprises may seek to operate in Ireland, north and south

When their operations cross borders, businesses face increased complexity. The management of people, processes and finances become more challenging. Designed for Chartered Accountants Ireland’s FAE Elective programme, this textbook explains the nature of those challenges and explores potential solutions to overcome them. In particular, it explains why and how Irish companies internationalise their businesses and why multinational enterprises may seek to operate in Ireland, north and south.

Building on these discussions, the reader will gain an understanding of what impacts the internationalisation of a business has on its organisation and culture. Broadly, the book covers:

  • International business strategy, culture, governance and organisation
  • The impact of economic factors on international business
  • Decision-making in an international context
  • International treasury management
  • Management accounting and performance measurement in an international context
  • The island of Ireland as a business location.

Extensive, detailed case studies are included on which a range of review questions is based. Suggested solutions to these review questions are provided in an appendix. The author has also provided articles by or interviews with senior management from three Irish multinationals, relating these to the text.
